WHO WE ARE

The Public Service Recruitment Secretariat (PSRS) is a government organ with a status of independent Department established specifically to facilitate the recruitment process of employees to the Public Service.

Public Service Recruitment Secretariat was established by the Public Service Act No. 8 0f 2002 as amended by Act No. 18 of 2007, section 29(1).

Vision

To be a Centre of Excellence in Public Service Recruitment in the region.

Mission

To undertake recruitment of Public servants using modern approaches by adhering to principles of equity, transparency and merits as well as providing advice to employers on employment related matters.

Functions Of Public Service Recruitment Secretariat

The major role of PSRS is to facilitate recruitment in the Public Service. According to the Public Service Cap. 298 of 2002 as amended by Amendment Act No. 18 of 2007 section 29 (1)

The functions of PSRS are:-

1. Search for various professionals with special skills and prepare database for such professionals for easier recruitment;

2. Register graduates and professionals for purposes of ease of reference of filling vacant posts;

3. Advertise vacant posts occurring in the public service;

4. Engage appropriate experts for purposes of conducting interviews

5. Advise employers on various matters related to recruitment, and

6. Do any other act or thing which may be directed by the Minister responsible for Public Service.

Bugando Medical Centre is a 950+ bed tertiary referral center founded by the Catholic Church that currently functions as one of Tanzania’s largest medical centers and houses a large medical training program, the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS).

There are approximately 1,000 medical students at CUHAS (spread over a five year curriculum), as well as nursing and dental students, students in the basic sciences, and researchers.

The elective included daily medical rounds at the Bugando Medical Centre and teaching rounds and education sessions with students from Weill-Bugando Medical College.

Some of the services in the hospital included inpatient adult medicine wards, the ICU, inpatient pediatric wards, and the wards of a nearby regional hospital.

BRELA

The Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) is an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade responsible for business administration and regulation of the laws; namely Companies Registration, Business Names Registration, Trade and Service Marks Registration, granting of Patents and issuing of Industrial License.

It was established under the Government Executive Agencies Act No. 30 of 1997 and formally launched on 3rd December 1999.

EWURA

The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) is an autonomous multi-sectoral regulatory authority established by the EWURA Act Cap 414 of the laws of Tanzania. It is responsible for technical and economic regulation of the electricity, petroleum, natural gas and water sectors in Tanzania pursuant to Cap 414 and sector legislation.

Functions

The functions of EWURA include among others, licensing, tariff review, monitoring performance and standards with regards to quality, safety, health and environment.

EWURA is also responsible for promoting effective competition and economic efficiency, protecting the interests of consumers and promoting the availability of regulated services to all consumers including low income, rural and disadvantaged consumers in the regulated sectors.

Duties

In carrying out its functions, EWURA shall strive to enhance the welfare of Tanzania society by:

I. promoting effective competition and economic efficiency;

II. protecting the interests of consumers;

III. protecting the financial viability of efficient suppliers;

IV. promoting the availability of regulated services to all consumers including low income, rural and disadvantaged consumers;

V. taking into account the need to protect and preserve the environment;

VI. enhancing public knowledge, awareness and understanding of the regulated sectors.

MSD

Medical Stores Department (MSD) was established by the Act of Parliament No.13 of 1993 as an autonomous department under the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children responsible for developing, maintaining and managing an efficient and cost effective system of procurement, storage and distribution of approved medicines and medical supplies required for use by all public health facilities.

The Board of Trustees is the highest decision-making body that governs and sets the direction of MSD on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Social Development, Gender, Elderly and Children.

The Board is comprised of nine (9) members appointed after every three years. The President of the United Republic of Tanzania appoints the Chairman while the Minister responsible for health appoints the rest (8) members.

The Director General serves as the Secretary to the Board but has no right to vote.

In order to ensure effective implementation of its responsibilities, the Board operates through three committees namely; Audit and Risk Management Committee, Technical Services Committee as well as Finance and Administration Committee.

The Board delegates the day-to-day management of the Department to Director General who is appointed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The administrative functions and operations of Department are carried by and through the Executive Management Team (EMT).

The EMT is constituted by the Director General, Director of Human Resources and Administration, Director of Finance and Planning, Director of Logistics, Director of Procurement, Director of Information and Communication Technology, Director of Customer Service and Zonal Operations.

The Chief Legal Counsel serves as Secretary to the EMT. The Department operates through nine zonal stores in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Iringa, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, Tabora, Dodoma,Tanga and Mtwara. One sales point at Muleba support sales operations for Mwanza zonal stores respectively.

Furthermore, in order to strengthen availability of medicines closer to people, MSD has well established community outlets (MCOs) located at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Sekou-Toure Hospital in Mwanza, near Mbeya Regional Referral Hospital, Mount Meru Hospital in Arusha, Chato District Hospital in Geita, Ruangwa District Hospital in Lindi and Mpanda District Hospital in Katavi.

TUME YA MADINI

The Mining Commission was established under the Mining Act 2010 as amended by Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendment) Act 2017.

The Commission came into existence through the Government Notice No. 27 issued on 7th July, 2017.

The Commission has taken over all operational functions that were being performed by Minerals Division under Ministry of Energy and Minerals and all functions that were being performed by Tanzania Minerals Audit Agency (TMAA) and Tanzania Diamond Sorting Organization (TANSORT).

The responsibility of the Minerals Division shall now be advising the Minister on all matters related to the mining sector.

The aim of the Commission is to enhance management of the Mining Sector and to ensure that the Government is benefiting from the income generated in a sustainable manner.

GPSA

The Government Procurement Services Agency (GPSA) is an Executive Agency established under the Executive Agency Act N0. 30 of 1997 vide GN 235 of 7th December 2007 and amended as per GN 133 0f 13th April 2012.

The Agency was officially inaugurated on the 16th June 2008.
