The Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) is a public institution established in 2005 through the Government Notice No. 202 published on 22^nd July 2005.

The establishment of the College was a priority response by the Government of Tanzania to address the problem of acute shortage of graduate teachers and experts in the education sector that had resulted from the rapid expansion of school enrolment.

The expansion was due to the successes of the Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP) in 2002 – 2006 and the Secondary Education Development Programme (SEDP I) in 2004 – 2009, among other initiatives.

The College is located on Plot 324 and 325 Block ‘T’ Chang’ombe in Temeke Municipality, Dar es Salaam Region, adjacent to the new National Stadium and about 5 km from the City Centre via Kilwa Road. The College consists of 52.97 acres of land.

The College also owns an area of 1.17 hectares located on Plot No. 964/1 Block ‘V’ Mbagala. This strategic location of the College provides opportunities in different areas of investment due to its proximity to City centre.

AVAILABLE VACANCIES

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the following (ajira za mkataba) part time vacant positions at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) situated at Chang’ombe, Temeke District in Dar es Salaam.

SHORT TERM EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT DUCE

Job Title: Part time Readers/Note-takers for students with Disabilities and Special Needs (23 Posts).

(b) Qualifications:

Applicant must be a holder of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or an Advanced

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE), good command in English and must have the ability to work with Students with Disabilities and Special Needs. Knowledge and skills in computer, braille writing and sign language will be an added advantage.

(c) Duties and Responsibilities:

(i) To read and take notes on assigned reading materials for visually impaired and deaf students;

(ii) Fetching reading materials from the internet and library for the students;

(iii) To guide the students with physical challenges to different parts of the College e.g. Lecture rooms and outside the College;

(iv) To provide the students with disabilities with an accurate and full account of the information conveyed in lectures or classes and even outside the classes;

(v) To work in a helpful and flexible manner, maintaining confidentiality at all times, and;

(vi) To perform any other duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities.
