TIE Book Elimu ya Dini ya Kiislamu (EDK) Form One New Curriculum
Elimu ya Dini ya Kiislamu refers to the study or education of Islamic Religious Studies in Swahili. It is the body of knowledge that teaches the beliefs, practices, history, and values of Islam.
This education focuses on understanding the Quran (the holy book of Islam), Hadith (sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad), Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence or law), and other Islamic teachings.
In Elimu ya Dini ya Kiislamu, students are taught about:
Tawhid: The oneness of God (Allah) in Islam.
The Five Pillars of Islam: The basic acts of worship that shape a Muslim’s faith and actions, including Shahada (faith), Salat (prayer), Zakat (charity), Sawm (fasting), and Hajj (pilgrimage).
The life of the Prophet Muhammad: Learning about his life, teachings, and how he served as a model for Muslims.
The Quran: Understanding its meanings, teachings, and guidance for daily living.
Islamic Morality and Ethics: Learning about the moral values and principles that guide a Muslim’s behavior in society, including honesty, kindness, justice, and respect for others.
Elimu ya Dini ya Kiislamu is not only about understanding religious texts but also about developing a deep sense of spirituality and social responsibility. This education can be found in various settings, including schools, mosques, and through private study, and is an important part of religious upbringing for Muslims.
