Water Institute (WI), formerly known as Water Resources Institute (WRI) was established in the year 1974, being a unit in the Ministry of Water and Energy.

The aim was to meet the need for middle-level water technicians under the former National massive 20-years Rural Water Supply Programme (1971-1991).

In 1980 the name of the Institute was changed to Rwegarulila Water Resources Institute (RWRI).

Vision

The Institute is to become the Centre of excellence for providing technical education and training, conducting research and providing consultancy services for integrated development and management of water resources in the country, East Africa and Africa as a whole.

Mission

To provide quality technical training, research, consultancy and other services to all water sector stakeholders and to develop the Institute by using modern techniques of training and promoting appropriate technology.

WI objectives

We will meet the following objectives:

a) To provide high quality training programmes on water management and services

b) To have in place a professionally and efficient organised institution

c) To offer an adequate and stimulating learning environment

d) To operate as a semi- autonomous agency, financially- sustainable in time

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

i. To instruct students in the Department under close Supervision;

ii. To prepare material for practical and tutorial exercise;

iii. To conduct research;

iv. To carry out Consultancy and Service Job assignments under close supervision;

v. Topublish articles, books & research findings; and

vi. To perform any other duties assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree either in Water Resources Engineering or Environmental Engineering and Bachelor Degree either in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology or Irrigation with minimum GPA 3.5 or equivalent from recognized institution.
