Kinondoni Municipal Council is one of the five (5) Councils that make up the Dar es Salaam Region. Others are Temeke Municipal Council, Ubungo, Kigamboni and Dar es Salaam City Council.
The Kinondoni Municipal Council was established by the Government Law (Town Authorities) Chapter 288 through Government Notice No. 4 of 2000 by the Office of the President, Regional Administrations and Local Governments as an independent body, thus giving it authority to increase the quality of service delivery to its citizens.
TERRITORY LIMITS
Kinondoni Municipal Council borders the Indian Ocean to the East, Dar es Salaam City Council to the South, Bagamoyo District to the North and Ubungo District to the West.
The council is connected to other parts of the city and country by a network of communication roads. Main roads include Morogoro, Bagamoyo, Kawawa, Sam Nujoma, Mwai Kibaki and Ally Hassan Mwinyi roads.
WEATHER:
The climate of Kinondoni Municipality has an average temperature of 290 degrees Celsius per year. The hot season starts between the months of October to March, while the cold season with an estimated temperature of 250C starts between the months of May to August and 29 degrees – 330C for the remaining months of the year. The average rainfall per year is 1,300 mm in two seasons which are autumn in the months of October – December and Spring which starts in the months of March – May.
AREA AND POPULATION
Kinondoni Municipal Council has a size of 321 square kilometers. According to the National Population and Housing Census of 2012, Kinondoni Municipality had a population of about 929,681 people.
Due to the increase in population growth of 5.0 percent per year, the Municipality is estimated to have a population of about 1,373,562 by the year 2020, so each square kilometer has a volume of 4,279 people.
ADMINISTRATION
Administratively, Kinondoni Municipal Council is divided into two (2) Divisions which are Kinondoni and Kawe, twenty (20) Wards and one hundred and six (106) Administrative Streets. The number of Constituencies is two (2) which are Kinondoni and Kawe. The District Head is the General Manager of all Government activities in the District.
The Municipality is led by a Council of Councilors with twenty-nine (29) members where there are 26 Councilors and 3 Members of Parliament where the Honorable Mayor is the Chief Leader and the Municipal Director is the Chief Executive on the part of Local Governments.
DUTIES OF KINONDONI MUNICIPAL COUNCIL
The duties are as follows:-
To strengthen and facilitate peace, order and good governance within the area of his administration.
Putting emphasis on social and economic welfare activities for all the people within the Council area according to the Plans and National Policy for the development of the Council, the Council has the responsibility to continue development in the social and economic aspects within the Council area.
Emphasizing and ensuring democratic participation in issuing directives that concern the people themselves.
Establishing and strengthening effective sources of income and other sources to enable Local Governments to carry out other tasks fully.
Supervise the construction of road infrastructure, buildings, electricity and water.
To strengthen and develop business activities, industries, markets and informal sectors.
Providing health care, prevention and improvement of community development and social welfare.
Sanitation and control of solid waste and sewage in the Council area.
To manage and provide Primary and Secondary education in the Council area.
Managing and coordinating the fight to reduce AIDS infection and control new infections.
Supervising the implementation of Policies, Laws of the country and Council by-laws.

<> Better use of professional information. Honorable Councilors and Employees of the Kinondoni Municipal Council are not allowed to use government information for personal interests or to give it to those who are not involved.
<> To work in cooperation with all stakeholders in the performance and respect for all regardless of the diversity of society (gender, disability, etc.).
Muundo wa Taasisi
Kinondoni is one of five districts in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, others being Temeke, Kigamboni, Ubungo and Ilala (downtown Dar es Salaam).
To the east is the Indian Ocean, to the north and west the Pwani Region of Tanzania. The area of Kinondoni is 537 km2 (207 sq mi).
The 2002 Tanzanian National Census showed that the population of Kinondoni was 1,083,913.
The census of 2012 showed that the population of Kinondoni was 1,775,049: 914,247 female and 860,802 male. There are 446,504 households in Kinondoni with an average of 4 people per household.
The original inhabitants of Kinondoni were the Zaramo and Ndengereko, but due to urbanization the district has become multi-ethnic.
