MUHAS Postgraduate Application Procedures 2024/2025

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) started as the Dar es salaam medical school in 1963. The school then transformed into the faculty of medicine of the university of Dar es salaam that in 1991 was upgraded and became a college–the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS).

In 1996, the Faculty of Medicine that was upgraded to a constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam, with the aim of nurturing it to a full-fledged university later on was merged with the Muhimbili hospital to create the Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC).

Over the years MUCHS made significant achievements in terms of increased student enrollment and development of several new academic programmes. The Parliament Act No 9 of 1991 that established MUCHS was repealed in 2005 through the universities Act no 7 of 2005.Subsequently, in 2007Article 1 of the Charter of Incorporation established MUHAS; in line with the Universities act no 7 of 2005.

To provide quality training, research and services in health and related fields for attainment of equitable socioeconomic development for Tanzanian community and beyond.

MUHAS Postgraduate Application Procedures 2024/2025


Applicants for Master by Coursework Programmes will be required to submit applications online.

Application portal will be displayed on MUHAS website (www.muhas.ac.tz) during application window which normally runs between January – March each year.

Applicants for MSc R&P as well as PhD programmes shall be required to fill in application form MUHAS/PG.F9 which will be submitted physically to Office of the Director of Postgraduate Studies (DPGS) MUHAS together with Concept Note, CV, Birth Certificate, Academic Certificates and Transcripts. Two academic referees will be required to submit recommendations through MUHAS/PG.F2.

Application Fees

All applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of TZS 100,000/= (for Tanzanian Nationals) or US$ 50 (for foreign applicants).

(i) Master by Coursework degree applicants will generate control number and make payment using mobile payment services through the online application portal.

(ii) Foreign applicants for Master by Coursework degree programmes will be required to pay US$ 50 application fee to MUHAS through MUHAS National Bank of Commerce (NBC) account with details below;

(iii) MSc R&P and PhD applicants will generate control number physically at the Directorate of Finance, MUHAS and, make payment and submit payment receipt together with other application

(iv) The fees will be revised from time to time, as the need arises. Information on the fees applicable for any given year is obtainable from the University Prospectus.

Other Requirements

Certificates obtained from unlisted Universities and institutions of higher learning shall be subject to approval by the Tanzania Commission for Universities.

A candidate discontinued on academic grounds from a postgraduate programme may be allowed to apply for re-admission at MUHAS 3 years from the date of discontinuation.

Students discontinued from studies because of examination irregularities or other cases of professional misconduct shall NOT be considered for re-admission to this University.

Application deadline shall be 31st March of each year.
