The National Institute of Transport (NIT) is a public higher learning institution located on west of Dar-es-Salaam City, along Mabibo Road in Ubungo Light Industrial area; just about one kilometer off the Morogoro Road.

NIT was established in 1975 as training wing of the then National Transport Corporation (NTC).

NIT was charged with the responsibility of strengthening human resource capabilities of transport operatives and middle level managers of subsidiary companies of NTC.

These subsidiary companies were: National Bus Services Limited (KAMATA), Usafiri Dar-as-Salaam Limited (UDA), Regional Transport Companies (RETCOs) etc.

In 1982, it was realized that there was need to have an Institute that will cover all modes of transport.

The Institute expanded its area of activities and responsibilities. As a result, NIT was re–established through NIT Act No. 24 of 1982 as an autonomous Higher Learning Institution under the then Ministry of Communications and Works.

It came into operation on 1st July, 1983 through the Government Notice No. 91. Currently, the Institute is under the Ministry of Transport.

With legal status and the Governing Council was given a mandate to govern and administer the Institute.

APPLICATION FEE

Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5) in related field recognized by NACTE Application of non-refundable fee of Tshs.10,000/= should be done through the instructions provided in the electronic application form found in the Institute website; www.nit.ac.tz.

This is a step-by-step guide on how to apply for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the National Institute of Transport.

To apply for admission, follow the steps below;
Step 1: Access the NIT Admission
website: https://oas.nit.ac.tz/index.php/login/ 
Step 2: The NIT online application system will open

Navigate to the Undergraduate or postgraduate section and read the available instruction carefully.

Step 3: Registration

Navigate to the registration link and fill in the required information to complete your registration. The information needed during the registration stage includes

  • First name
  • Surname
  • Email Address
  • Mobile Telephone Number
  • O-Level index number,

To finalize registration, you will need to put in a password of your choice that you will use whenever you wish to log into the admission system.

If you are successfully registered, then the system will send you an email or SMS. Please log in to your email account and use the link sent to your email to activate your admission account.

Step 4: NIT online application login

Login to NIT OAS by using your Username and password. Complete your registration by providing your basic information such as gender, marital status, and date of birth, among others.

Step 5: NIT Application fees payment

Once you have completed the registration stage, the control number will automatically be generated and you will be able to make an application fee payment and complete the application. For a successful application, an applicant must pay a non-refundable application fee of 10,000/= TZS.

NIT application fee payments details: Payment can be done via mobile money (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa and Airtel Money) or directly into NIT bank account – after getting control number.

Step 6: The course selection feature 

Will only be visible for filling once the application fee is paid, carefully select your courses and submit your completed application: In order to successfully complete the application; the applicant is required to complete all steps from “Home” to” Submit your application.

The Rector National Institute of Transport (NIT) invites suitably qualified candidates for admission into various programmes for the academic year 2022/2023.

Applicants are required to apply online through this portal and follow instructions given to complete their applications.

Payment can be done via mobile money (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa and Airtel Money) or directly into NIT bank account – after getting control number.

1. Applicants should use the link which is found in the NIT website: www.nit.ac.tz to apply on line

2. Applicants should read and understand the guidelines and admission requirements for the programmes they apply for.

3. Applicants should ensure that, they have adequate information for the programmes of choice taking into account the competition, subject passes in their form Four or six examination and career aspiration

4. Applicants holding foreign qualification should have their qualification validated and equated by the respective regulatory bodies before submitting the application for admission at the Institute.
