SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EXAMINATION FORMAT FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL STD VII

05 SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The format for the Primary School Leaving Examination for Science and Technology has been prepared based on the 2016 Science and Technology syllabus that came into effect in 2017.

This syllabus has spelled out both the General and Specific competencies that a pupil is expected to acquire during primary education from III to VII.

In such instances, the examination for the Science and Technology subject will measure the competencies acquired by the candidate from Standard III to VII.

2.0 GENERAL OBJECTIVES

The Science and Technology examination will test the candidate’s ability to:

2.1 aquire knowledge of developing science and technology skills;

2.2 buid the ability to use science and technology to solve problems in day-today life; and

2.3 develop the ability to use various science and technological tools.

3.0 GENERAL COMPETENCIES

The examination for this subject will test the candidate’s competencies in:

3.1 performing investigations and discoveries in science and technology;

3.2 applying fundamentals of science and technology; and

3.3 maintaining health and the environment.

4.0 EXAMINATION RUBRIC

The Science and Technology examination will be of one paper which will be done for 1:30 hours and 1:45 hours for the candidates with visual impairment.

The examination will have two sections A and B making a total of 45 questions of the examination. Questions for Section A (1 – 40) will be answered in the OMR forms by using the HB pencil.

Questions 41 – 45 will be answered on the second part of the OMR form by using either a blue or black ink pen. The candidate is required to answer all the questions weighing a total of 50 marks.

Section A will contain 40 multiple choice questions. Each question will carry one (1) mark making a total of 40 marks for the section.

Section B will have five (5) questions which require short answers or calculations. Each question will carry two (2) marks to make a total to 10 marks for this section.

5.0 EXAMINATION CONTENT

The competencies to be measured in the Science and Technology examination are as follows:

5.3 Maintaining health and the environment.
